EComm receives top awards!

April 29, 2010 - Earlier this year, EComm received two prestigious awards for the Zilker Park archeological mitigation project at the Vara Daniel Site (41TV1364). In January 2010, the Texas Historical Commission awarded EComm its Award of Merit for the public outreach effort during the Zilker Park project.
Then in March 2010, EComm also received the E. Mott Davis Award, given once a year to honor projects notable for their excellence in public outreach. For the Zilker project, EComm designed an interactive learning program that included a dynamic web site, an interpretive booth that was staffed eight hours a day, seven days a week, site tours, opportunities for the public to screen back dirt, and special events such as atlatl and flint knapping demonstrations. The project website (now hosted by City of Austin at http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/publicworks/zilker/) was updated regularly with photos, blogs, and even featured a live webcam filming the excavations. Throughout the course of the excavations, EComm hosted several thousand visitors to the Vara Daniel Site.
